Simple, Accessible, Affordable: Make Your Will a Priority

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Well, first of all, impostor syndrome is real. After reading and listening to some great content on startups and small business (The Startup Creative podcast is one of my favourites), I’ve come to realise that self-doubt and a fear of failure affects pretty much all of us. So whenever I feel overwhelmed, I try to focus on just doing the next step.

Working from home has also required me to become more of a ‘planner’ and actually stick to keeping a diary (I’m working on it!). Practising daily routines and working on self-compassion has been challenging at times, but it’s absolutely made me more confident in other areas of my life as well, outside of work.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

There is a huge amount of satisfaction that comes with helping a customer complete their will, and hearing that our customers are happy with the will-making process and with their final product is just the icing on the cake. I didn’t realise how exciting online reviews are until I started a business of my own!

As a creative spirit, I’ve found the freedom and proactive side to running my own business incredibly rewarding. Being able to engage with customers directly as well as running the creative side of things like graphic design and marketing really feels like the best of both worlds. I enjoy being involved in every step of the process.

The flipside of this, though, is that being across every single aspect of the business can be chaotic at the best of times – and while there are some things that are second nature to me (i.e. drafting wills), there are other tasks that might take me an entire day to sort out. This is where the help of friends and contacts who are more skilled than I am make such a difference – and if I’m in a real pinch, there’s always Google.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

We’re passionate about raising awareness of the importance of wills and breaking the taboo around end-of-life planning. Not all of us get the chance to set up these important steps and we hope that raising awareness encourages people to think and talk about their future with their families and friends.

We’re also really excited about collaborating with iDecide, who are changing the game in terms of end-of-life planning, and look forward to collaborating with them to help break the stigma and start the conversation about death and dying (it’s a real hoot).
